Shed That Dead!!

Exfoliation is the most important thing you can do in any skincare regimen. Exfoliation allows you to remove built up dead skin cells that accumulate and prevent the turn over of fresh new cells on your face and body. It is especially important if you have tendency to be blemish or acne prone because the dead skin cells get stuck in the sebum coming out of your pores and clogs the pore allowing bacteria to grow in it's own little hovel. Rip the roof off and evict them by exfoliating. When dealing with acneic prone skin it is best not to use exfoliants that have ingredients like crushed walnut shells and the like as they leave micro-lesions on the skin and help spread bacteria. I don't normally support these types of exfoliants period, they damage the dermis.

One of my faves is Baborganics Biological Enzyme Cleaner from Babor. This arrives in a powder form, you add water to activate enzymes that basically munch away dead skin cells. It also gives you a shot of Vitamin C. Upon trying this one (I cheated and used it 3 days in a row rather than the intended 2-3 times a week) I noticed a reduction in the appearance of my pores and my skin felt much smoother.

I also like Boost Mini-Peel from Glytone. 10% glycolic peel used 2-3 times a week. Gives your skin an instant fresh effect. This is a great supplement to the Glytone cleansing routine.

And NEW!! from Exuvience, Performance Peel AP.  A 25% professional level AHA/PHA blend to help maintain your skin at home.  This peel is an awesome bargain at only $60.00 for a 6 week supply.

Whatever you choose to use, make sure use are using an exfoliant to help prevent aging and keep clear skin. It also helps active ingredients like Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Niacin, etc... penetrate deeper into healthier skin for better effect.

*WARNING! Discontinue use and consult your physician if you have excessive reddening, peeling, burning, or inflamation.  Some products may tingle a bit, but anything more than that from an at home product can mean problems, so be aware with your skincare.
